Well every website seems to need an “about us” page to tell people about us. I’m not big into airing our laundry, dirty or otherwise, nor really where we came from or our pedigree. Suffice to say we exist. However for the purpose of this website I’ll break with tradition.
Our surname comes from Dad (William Michael Day) a refugee from England back in 1948 just after the Second World War.
Dad had just gone through what to most people today would consider a fairly life changing event, only to find that he couldn’t fit back into the society/family life that was probably fairly well to do middle class. So given a choice to leave England, he chose to go to Australia.
I can’t imagine the culture shock of travelling from the rolling green hills of England to the dusty hot climes of Moulamein, but he did and he thrived. Given he was surrounded by great people, the Redfearns especially Anne and Margy, both of whom were like sisters to him, this young Englishman certainly fitted in.
Dad was a twin. I would like to say identical but his sister would probably disagree if she were still alive. Apart from Mary, dad’s other sibling was his older brother Peter. Both remained in England, Peter following in his fathers footsteps. Mary married Derek Hall and both started a business making spectacle cases.
Dad met and married Joan Heighway from Woorinen North about 18kms from Swan Hill. And from that marriage three children were born, Lisa Jane, Alison Mary and myself Roger Michael.
I have married Helen Margaret (nee Magee) and we have one son, Todd Joshua who has married and divorced Jenna Marie Barry. But they have given us two perfect Grandchildren of course, Mason Joshua and Addisyn Marie.
Now I could go on and may do down the track, but for now this will do.
